An Arizona Resident?<\/strong><\/h1><p>State law requires that you obtain an Arizona vehicle registration and driver license immediately if any of the following apply:<\/p><ul><li>\u00a0You work in Arizona (other than for seasonal agricultural work)<\/li><li>You are registered to vote in Arizona<\/li><li>You place children in school without paying the tuition rate of a nonresident<\/li><li>You have a business with an office in Arizona that bases and operates vehicles in this state<\/li><li>You obtain a state license or pay school tuition fees at the same rate as an Arizona resident<\/li><li>You have a business that operates vehicles to transport goods or passengers within Arizona<\/li><li>You remain in Arizona for a total of seven months or more during any calendar year, regardless of your permanent residence<\/li><\/ul><p>***Active-duty military personnel based in Arizona who qualify for exemption under the Service members Civil Relief Act (SCRA) of 2003 are not considered Arizona residents.<\/p><h1><strong>You Have An Out-Of-State Driver License<\/strong><\/h1><p><b>If you provide a valid driver license from another state, written and road tests are NOT required.<\/b>\u00a0You may be given a vision exam.<\/p><p>In order to obtain an Arizona driver license bring the following with you to our office:<\/p><p><b>1) Your Out-Of-State License<\/b><\/p><p><b>2) One \u202fProof of Identity\u202fDocument<\/b><\/p><p>Some acceptable documents include:<\/p><p>Original or certified birth certificate;\u00a0Unexpired U.S. passport;\u00a0Passport card<\/p><p>If you need a certified copy of an Arizona birth certificate, the\u00a0<strong><a href=\"https:\/\/www.azdhs.gov\/licensing\/vital-records\/index.php#birth-certificates-home\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener\">Arizona Department of Health Services \u202f<\/a><\/strong>now accepts online orders \u202fwith expedited processing.<\/p><p><b>3) Social Security Number<\/b><\/p><p>You will need your social security number, but you do NOT have to bring your Social Security card to our office.<\/p><p>You are required by A.R.S. \u00a7\u00a7 28-3158(D)(5) and 28-3165(F), under the authority of 42 U.S.C. \u00a7\u00a7 405(c)(2)(C) and 666(a)(13)(A), to provide your Social Security number. It will be used to verify your identity and to comply with federal and state child-support enforcement laws. It will not be used as your driver license or identification card number.<\/p><p>*If you don\u2019t have a Social Security card, you can order a replacement card by visiting the\u202f<strong><a href=\"https:\/\/www.ssa.gov\/ssnumber\/?gclid=CjwKCAiA3pugBhAwEiwAWFzwdY8TFxft3AjIg2KcV1IsoTkzBID91mhsgHVv2CNrNwR0NQOyIYaqfhoCTlMQAvD_BwE\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener\">Social Security Administration website.<\/a><\/strong><\/p><p><b>4) Two Documents That Provide<\/b>\u00a0<b>Proof of Arizona Residency<\/b><\/p><p>Two printed documents with your name and current Arizona residential address: physical mail or printout based on your online account.<\/p><p>Acceptable documents include:<\/p><p>Utility bills;\u00a0Credit card \/ bank statements;\u00a0Insurance policy<\/p><p><strong>*Note:<\/strong>\u00a0<b>If your current legal name is different from the one shown on a document,<\/b>\u00a0<b>you must show legal proof of name change<\/b>\u00a0such as a marriage certificate, divorce decree or court order.<\/p><p>***Those who don\u2019t have the required residency documents must complete an\u00a0<strong><a href=\"https:\/\/apps.azdot.gov\/files\/mvd\/mvd-forms-lib\/40-5143.pdf\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener\">Arizona Residency Affidavit<\/a><\/strong> \u202fand supply additional proof of residency.\u202fOnly one of the two documents may be an Affidavit, and it does require a notary. Documents can be notarized at any of our\u00a0office locations.<\/p><h1><strong>You Don\u2019t Have An Out-Of-State Driver License<\/strong><\/h1><div class=\"elementor-element elementor-element-ce13258 elementor-widget elementor-widget-text-editor\" data-id=\"ce13258\" data-element_type=\"widget\" data-widget_type=\"text-editor.default\"><div class=\"elementor-widget-container\"><p>If you don\u2019t have an out-of-state driver license but would like to obtain an Arizona driver\u2019s license,\u00a0<a href=\"https:\/\/azauto.biz\/drivers-license-services-2\/\"><strong>view the requirements.\u00a0<\/strong><\/a><\/p><p><b>Travel ID Requirements<\/b><\/p><p>You may decide to get a Non-Travel Driver License. You will receive a title summary. Similarly, when you pay off a vehicle loan, the title will be held electronically.<\/p><p>This change is paired with a similar process where physical items like registration tabs and license plates are mailed to a customer\u2019s home and aren\u2019t provided at MVD or authorized third party offices.<\/p><p>Customers who desire a paper title can request one.<\/p><h1><strong>Vehicle Registration<\/strong><\/h1><p>If your vehicle was registered in another state and you wish to operate it in Arizona, you must\u00a0<strong><a href=\"https:\/\/azdot.gov\/motor-vehicles\/new-az-welcome\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener\">register it as soon as you become an Arizona resident<\/a>.<\/strong><\/p><p>To title and register your out-of-state vehicle, you will need:<\/p><ol><li aria-level=\"1\">An out-of-state title (or registration, if title is held by lienholder)<\/li><li aria-level=\"1\">A lien clearance, if applicable<\/li><li aria-level=\"1\">An\u00a0<strong><a href=\"http:\/\/www.myazcar.com\/\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener\">emission<\/a><\/strong>\u00a0test compliance form\u00a0(Phoenix and Tucson areas only) if required.<\/li><\/ol><p><strong><br \/><a href=\"http:\/\/www.myazcar.com\/\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener\">More information regarding emissions testing can be found here.<\/a><\/strong>\u00a0Appointments are not necessary. This emission test is required prior to registering your vehicle in Arizona.<\/p><p>Vehicles that require emissions are model year 1967 and newer AND are more than 5 years old if you live in Maricopa or Pima County.<\/p><p>If you have a leased vehicle, a Power of Attorney from the lessor (original or certified copy) is required along with your current out-of-state registration.
